Repair or replace? How to choose
If your opener is under ~10 years old and the problem is a worn gear, dead remote, or a sensor that's knocked out of alignment, a repair is usually the smart call. It's worth replacing when the unit is 10 to 15+ years old, grinds or shakes the whole door, has no safety auto-reverse, or uses a fixed code instead of modern rolling-code security.
